Limit your caffeine intake: Stop having a cup of coffee a couple of hours before retiring for the night. If you can’t sleep, then you should never drink coffee at all. When you buy soda, chocolates or any over the counter medicine, look for the presence of caffeine on the labels.
Use light and darkness to make you sleep easily: As you get up in the morning, you brain should receive a signal from the sunlight that another day has just started. This assists to keep the body’s natural clock in good working order. Similarly at night, make your room as dark as possible by turning off all lights.
Don’t use the bed for other activities except sleeping: There are only two matters that should be done in bed, and sleeping is the main one. You should not read in bed, watch TV in bed, or do any other activity that could be done in another room. If you retain the main purpose of the bed, you would automatically feel like sleeping when you get into it.
Don’t just sit on the bed when you can’t sleep: We talk about the bed earlier. So here is how you doze off. If you can’t sleep, there is no point in flipping on the bed all night. Instead, what youo can do is to get up and start doing some fun activities. Don’t worry about getting to sleep. Strange enough, you will feel like dozzing off afterwards.
Exercise wisely: Getting enough physical exercise can help in overcoming insomnia. Also, you feel tired enough to sleep. You should exercise daily to stay healthy. But doing it before bedtime would not help you to sleep easily. You are not preparing your body to sleep because of the stimulation of the nerves and the rising heart beat, making it hard to fall asleep.
Avoid having a sweet tooth before retiring: Sweets give you energy which you don’t need when you want to sleep. You may think that it can make you sleep but as you will awake when your blood sugar level drops too low.
Eat tryptophan foods: Tryptophan, an amino acid, helps in the production of serotonin which later converts into melatonin. This will make you fall asleep. A glass of warm milk is also a good choice too because it contains melatonin.
Use relaxation techniques: Some of the relaxation techniques can encourage better sleep. You need to do a few of these exercises for about twenty minutes before you call it a day. Exercises such as body relaxation and visualization get your body ready to sleep. Some people find the tapes or CDs can help overcome insomnia. Occasionally, you need to learn some natural sleep remedies for adults so you can nod off easily. Any change in your daily schedules could seriously affect the kind of sleep you need. It could take only a few minutes to look at some of your daily routines and then make some constructive changes to your lifestyles.
